My experience at Driving Skills Academy was the best I could ask for. Chris himself is super friendly, chatty and comforting when you need it the most. He affors great advice and constructive criticism whilst also being up for a friendly chat and a joke. His car, Fernando, was the best car I could have learnt in. And the fact that Chris knew his own car so well really helped. I would recommend Driving Skills Academy to anyone, whether you're the most confident driver out there or the most nervous. Regardless of your situation Driving Skills Academy will be able to guide you to success.

I recently passed my ADI part three whilst training with Driving Skills Academy. After a period of self doubt Chris took me under his wing and gave me back some self belief. Chris is a great trainer, fantastic leader but above all a throughly nice person. I’ve achieved something I wasn’t sure could actually do but Chris helped me along the way. Driving Skills Academy is a great place to learn with a great team of people, highly recommended.

Chris has been the most fabulous instructor for all 3 of my children. My youngest Pippa comments that he’s so calm, friendly, supportive and the best driving teacher. He’s extremely knowledgeable and has earned his wonderful reputation allowing her to pass first time. Thank you so much for teaching all my children and it’s quite sad to say goodbye.

Chris has been an amazing driving instructor for my daughter. He has such a calm and patient manner which really helps a new driver. I really enjoyed learning with Driving Dkills Academy. My instructor was Chris but he adopts a teaching style based on your needs which I found incredibly helpful.

Unfortunately, I had lots of anxiety surrounding driving and often dreaded driving lessons with previous instructors. However, once I found Chris and began lessons, I found that he was a lovely instructor who made me enjoy driving again, whilst keeping my anxiety and nerves under control. I also found that he taught me to drive safely in everyday life rather than to drive safely purely to pass a driving test - it was clear that he cared about the safety of his students. I would 100% recommend Chris and his driving school for driving tuition, especially if you suffer with driving anxiety like I did.

I recently qualified as an Approved Driving Instructor with Chris Barker and couldn’t be happier with the standard of training I have received.I’ve wanted to be a driving instructor since my teens and it was my desire to be the best client-centred driving instructor I could be. When looking for a trainer, my priority was to look for someone who was exactly the kind of instructor I wanted to be and after reading some reviews and meeting him for a coffee, it was clear to me that Chris would be the ideal role model to follow and signed up to train with him. Despite a long and difficult journey, Chris was always available to provide advice, further training and sometimes even emotional support when things became particularly challenging. Chris’s expert advice and support allowed me to build on my skills and not only enabled me to pass all three ADI tests and become a qualified driving instructor, but has set me in good stead to becoming the driving instructor I’ve always dreamed of becoming. It’s a true honour to be a member of the team and cannot recommend Driving Skills Academy enough for driver and instructor training.

Chris took my daughter for a 2 hour lesson before her (out of local area) driving test. He was very friendly and professional. He pointed out a couple of things her local instructor had not told her, and she went on to pass her test first time in a new to her area. Thanks in no small way to Chris. From the very first time I stepped in the car, Chris has made me feel right at home. Even on the days where I was feeling less confident, he never failed to make me at ease. The pacing of the lessons are perfect, it helps you to really understand all the aspects that go into driving and how they all finally combine to pass your test. He really teaches you how to actually drive, rather than just pass your test, which has made me feel so much more confident as a driver.

Chris Barker is a fantastic driving instructor and serves as an excellent role-model for the instructors he trains at Driving Skills Academy. Although I’ve been driving for many years in the US, I was nervous about taking a driving test here. My test was in Northampton and Chris took me to some key tricky areas to improve the safety of my driving. He also found some key areas that could practice during the week. He kept conversation going and helped me reflect on what to improve once it was safe. I just passed my test and I might add that my experience with the assessor was very similar to Chris’s style. Throughout the test I felt well prepared. Thank you!

I met Chris Barker from Driving Skills Academy originally when I was feeling very unhappy in my current career. After 28 years in Recruitment, I needed to make a change and whilst I had thought about becoming a Driving Instructor, I had no idea what to expect. Chris was very open and honest about what it takes to succeed.
After a really good meeting discussing in depth what I would have to do, I decided that this was the right choice for me and that the only way to succeed was to do it with Chris (I had spoken to other schools and was so impressed in how Driving Skills Academy trained and supported you)
I then started training and it was everything I needed, supportive, matched to my learning style and very collaborative.
I am now a fully qualified ADI and I couldn’t have done it without Chris(I wouldn’t have wanted to ) I am also a part of the Driving Skills Academy franchise and still get the support and direction I need as a newly qualified ADI but also get the autonomy and satisfaction of working for myself and being my own boss.
If you want a change in career, for me this is the most rewarding you will find, it’s easily the hardest thing I have had to do, but I wouldn’t change a single thing!!!!

That’s until my partner told me I should really get back into it as I really wanted to be able to drive, and that’s when he found Chris at Driving Skills Academy. Right from the get go Chris was incredibly keen to help after hearing my story and was able to fit me in straight away. I felt at ease immediately with Chris, and over the course of 17 hours my confidence grew immensely. He taught me how to drive rather than how to pass a test, allowed me to find my own safe style of driving rather than following a strict routine and stamped out any fears of the driving test I had. I was then able to pass my test on my first attempt with Chris and feel at ease doing so. I honestly couldn’t recommend him enough and I can not express how happy and confident I feel with my driving now and I will forever be thankful to Chris for finally helping me get that driving freedom I had been so desperate for. I am also very thankful to Fernando! (Chris’s car!)

Excellent Course & Support I attended a ADI Part 3 Course with Chris and it was superb and great support for my study. Chris provided a well structured & engaging content that aided my development perfectly.

Chris is the absolute best of driving instructors, I have nothing but positive words to say about him! I went from having an instructor who was not very nice and quite rude to Chris who is very understanding, patient and supportive of both my theory questions or practical. I suffer from anxiety so having someone who is nothing but kind and patient while learning how to drive (which is scary as it is) is very helpful and important to anyone regardless. I would recommend Chris barker 100%. It is thanks to Chris that I passed with zero faults and I couldn’t be more happy!

I can't recommend Chris more highly, he has so much experienced and patience. My daughter took one of the "mock tests" with Chris as she is taking her test in Northampton and we are not from the area. This has to be one of the BEST things we have done, Chris took the time to point out all the faults (and there were many) and give her the confidence & knowledge on how to rectify them. We wished we lived in Northampton and had learnt with Chris from the start.

The mock test was a great way of helping me get a real taste of how the real driving test would be and Chris was professional throughout. At the end of the test, the review of my mock test really helped me understand my strengths and weak points. I was also given a full report which is very beneficial as it gives me all the solutions to resolve my issues before my test

Awesome instructor, really calm and teaches you to drive not just pass your test. Well structured lessons and an accompanying online app to monitor progress and see exactly what I need to practice in between lessons. Passed first time in under 4.5 months. THANK YOU Chris

Chris Barker was honestly the best instructor throughout his time teaching me. I opted for an intensive course, and Chris ensured that in 40 hours I was test ready. In two weeks, Chris took me from a nervous driver who didn’t think she could manage a manual license, to a confident and calm driver passing first time with only 3 minors. I would highly highly recommend. Not only was Chris a calm, patient and insightful driving instructor, he was also someone I looked forward to seeing at every lesson. I will truly miss our lessons.

As a parent of my daughter who learnt to drive with Chris I can honestly say I could not have asked for a better instructor. My daughter had never got behind a wheel before her first lesson and Chris made this a positive first time experience for her. From that first lesson she grew in confidence each time and always came back with a smile and pleased with what had been achieved on that particular lesson. Chris was patient, taught things in a very understanding way and my daughter genuinely built up a great student/instructor relationship that ended with her passing first time after just over 6 months of lessons.The 1.5 hour lessons were perfect length and every lesson was so useful. Chris was a very good instructor, always delivered the lessons on time and very well. He was calm, polite and explained everything fully and took very good care whilst I was learning. I honestly don’t think I could’ve had a better learning experience.

Chris was an amazing instructor. From the beginning he made me feel very comfortable about being on the roads. The efficient lessons meant it only took 12 of them to pass. He is flexible and friendly, I would recommend to anyone wanting to learn to drive.

Amazing Instructor Chris was an amazing instructor. From the beginning he made me feel very comfortable about being on the roads. The efficient lessons meant it only took 12 of them to pass. He is flexible and friendly, I would recommend to anyone wanting to learn to drive.

Chris was such an amazing driving instructor. He was really patient with me and gave me advice tailored to my needs. Chris was very friendly and made me feel at ease every time I was driving with him and helped me to gain a zero fault driving test showing his skills. I wouldn’t recommend him enough as a driving instructor!

Can get you to top standard quickly Chris was an Amazing instructor , really helpful, able to switch tests when you need to. Can get you to top standard quickly. Very helpful and understanding. Was able to get me a test as soon as I was ready. Did not have to wait. Very encouraging.

Mock Test Review - very thorough We booked a mock test for our son and Chris was very accommodating in location pick up/fitting in with college times and offering very constructive advice for moving forward with personal driving practice and with other driving instructors. We found the whole process very professional, personal , friendly and not in any way negative. We would definitely recommend Chris to anybody, our son said he enjoyed the practice, felt positive in moving forward, considers the practice advise to be very thorough and would like to book another session as it apparently went too fast!
