As per the report from the BBC today there are a lot of people falling for driving lesson scams in which they lose hundreds of pounds. Here our top things to check to avoid these scams:
Are they with a reputable company, or are they an independent instructor with a good reputation?
Type the website address directly into the browser rather than following links. Are there any reviews online about the instructor? Have they been recommended by friends etc A google search will usually reveal reviews of the instructor or driving school. Does the email address look legitimate? All our instructors email addresses end with @drivingskillsacademy.co.uk
Are they on the DVSA register here? If not contact details for the DVSA to check can also be found in the same page https://www.gov.uk/find-driving-schools-and-lessons
Is the driving instructor displaying their badge?
If you’re learning with a Potential Driving Instructor, then they’ll have a pink triangular badge in their windscreen. This category of instructor is only one test away from becoming an ADI and is allowed to provide teaching as a way of building up experience. Approved Driving Instructors, by comparison, will have a green octagonal badge in their windscreen. The badge displayed should have a photograph of the instructor, a reference number and an expiry date.
